Volunteer Abroad FAQ’s

WELCOME TO THE FAQ's PAGE!

Before you embark on your journey of giving, we know you might have a few questions. Our FAQ section brings together all the essential information about volunteering abroad with WCF — from travel logistics to what to expect on the ground. This page is here to give you clarity, confidence, and peace of mind as you prepare to make a meaningful impact.

About the Deployments

Alhamdulillah, our teams are able to serve in many parts of the world where the need is greatest, such as Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Gambia.

Because the situation on the ground can change, the best place for the most up-to-date information on our upcoming deployment dates and locations is always our website. You can find everything you need at www.worldcarefoundation.org/volunteerabroad.

Specific activities are decided depending on the size of the group, location, time of the year and the actual need of the communities as well as fundraising. The work you'll be doing is at the very heart of what we do, and it's incredibly rewarding.

Insha'Allah, volunteers are usually involved in a variety of tasks. This includes everything from packing and distributing essential aid like food parcels to families in refugee camps, to spending valuable time supporting widows and visiting orphans. A big part of the experience is bringing a little joy, whether it's through engaging activities at orphanages or assisting at community centres that focus on education and empowering women.

It's hands-on, impactful work where you truly get to connect with the people we are helping. You will, Insha'Allah, be a source of comfort and a reason for many smiles.
Before we depart on the actual trip, we will share a detailed schedule of activities for each day

Our standard deployments typically last for about three to four days. However, the exact duration can sometimes vary depending on the location and the time of year. For instance, our deployment trips during Ramadan may be slightly longer, around five or six days, to accommodate the different schedule.

For our general deployments, you don't need any specific professional skills or previous experience, Alhamdulillah. The most important thing you can bring is a sincere intention and a willingness to help those in need.

We do arrange separate, specialised deployments for professionals like doctors and dentists for that please email your CV to [email protected]

Yes, Alhamdulillah, our deployments are open to everyone. We welcome brothers, sisters, and families from all walks of life to join us. The only requirement is a sincere desire to help those in need. mashaAllah 100s of volunteers join us each year from many locations

Yes, absolutely. We encourage families to join our deployments as we believe it's a blessed experience to serve together. Parents are very welcome to bring their children along to participate.

Yes, we do have age guidelines in place for the safety and well-being of all our volunteers.

Generally, individuals aged 16 and over are welcome to join a deployment independently. Younger children, from the age of 10, can also participate but they must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian.

It’s important to note that these guidelines can sometimes vary slightly depending on the specific location of the deployment.

Travel and Logistics

The volunteer is responsible for covering the cost of their own flights/hotel & transport. This is included in the total deployment total fee, which, as we mentioned previously, is handled on a 100% non-profit basis to cover all the essential travel and logistical arrangements for your trip.

You can leave all of the logistical arrangements to us. To make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible for our volunteers, World Care Foundation takes care of everything—from booking your flights and accommodation to arranging all your transport on the ground, Insha'Allah.

Please be assured that this is handled on a 100% non-profit basis. Every penny of the deployment cost goes directly towards covering these essential bookings for your trip.

However if you would like to arrange your own flights, please notify the staff member dealing with you!

Whether you will need a visa really depends on the passport you hold and our specific destination country, as the requirements are different for everyone.

However, please don't worry, as you won't have to figure this out on your own. As you go through the application process, we will provide you with clear information and guide you through any necessary steps, Insha'Allah.

That is a very important question. The need for vaccinations or other medical precautions depends entirely on the deployment destination, as some countries have specific health requirements.

Because this concerns your personal health and safety, we strongly advise that you consult with your GP or a local travel clinic. They will give you the most accurate, up-to-date advice for the specific country you'll be visiting. It's always best to do this well in advance of the travel date, as some vaccinations need time to become effective.

Don't worry, to make sure you're fully prepared, we will provide every volunteer with a detailed packing list once your place on the deployment is confirmed.

This list covers all the essentials you'll need, from clothing and hygiene items to any personal medication and required documents. As a general guide, we always recommend packing comfortable, modest clothing that is practical for the hands-on work we'll be doing.

You'll have this list well in advance, giving you plenty of time to get everything ready, Insha'Allah.

That is the most important question, and I want to assure you that the safety and security of our volunteers is our absolute highest priority.

Before any deployment proceeds, we conduct thorough risk assessments for the destination. We work very closely with our experienced teams on the ground who constantly monitor the local situation. We have clear security protocols and safety measures in place for the entire trip to protect every participant.

Please be assured, we would never proceed with a deployment unless we were confident in the safety of the arrangements. Your well-being is our trust (amanah), and we ask Allah (SWT) to keep all our volunteers safe.

Yes, all our volunteers are required to arrange their own travel insurance for the trip. This is a mandatory step we ask for, primarily for your own safety and peace of mind, to ensure you are fully protected while you are away.

The cost for standard cover is usually quite reasonable, typically falling between £15 to £30. We will provide more specific guidance on this during the booking process to make sure you know exactly what is needed.

That's a good question. To ensure you have complete peace of mind during the deployment, it's always a good idea to quickly confirm a couple of details with your chosen insurance provider.

We just recommend double-checking with them that the policy you choose provides full cover for the country we'll be visiting. If you're unsure at all, please let us know, and we can happily point you towards some specialist insurance providers that other volunteers have used for these types of trips.

It's just a simple check to make sure you're all set and can focus on the rewarding experience ahead, Insha'Allah.

Costs and Fundraising

No, there is absolutely no mandatory fundraising target, so please don't feel any pressure in that regard. Our main priority is to have your help on the ground.

We do provide you with a personal fundraising page to share with friends and family. Naturally, the more funds we can all raise together, the greater our impact can be. Every pound you fundraise goes directly to the projects, allowing us to provide more food parcels, medical aid, and support to those who need it most.

Our belief is still that every single contribution is a blessing. The intention and effort are what count, and we are grateful for any support you gather for the cause, Alhamdulillah.

Yes, volunteers are required to cover their own deployment costs.

It's important to know that this isn't a fee paid to the charity, but rather a direct contribution that covers all of your own essential logistics. This includes your flights, accommodation, and all transport on the ground for the duration of the trip.

As we are 100% non-profit, you can be assured that every penny of this contribution goes directly towards making these arrangements for you. This is separate from any fundraising you do, which goes entirely to the aid projects that help our beneficiaries.

The total deployment cost can vary, as it mainly depends on the destination country and the time of year, which affects the price of flights and local accommodation.

However, to give you a general guide, the contribution is typically in the range of £600 to £900 per person.

Please see our latest dates and destinations here www.worldcarefoundation.org/volunteerabroad and advise of your preferences we can then confirm the costs for you

Yes, you can fundraise for your own travel costs, but it is very important to keep that separate from the charity donations. Here’s how:

First: The fundraising page we give you is only for the people we help. That money is for their food and aid, and cannot be used for your flights or hotel.

Second: To raise money for your own costs, you must do it separately. You can use another website, or ask your friends and family directly.

When you do this, you must tell them their contribution is a personal gift to help you travel, not a donation to the charity. This honesty ensures every penny of charity goes to those who need it.

Yes thats fine. Please keep our Volunteer Program coordinator updated.

Daily Life on Deployment

A typical day on deployment begins with a morning briefing and breakfast with the team.

The day’s activities can vary but will involve hands-on work such as packing and distributing aid, preparing clothes bundles, or helping in a community kitchen. A major part of our work is engaging directly with the community, which may include visiting families in need of greater assistance, or spending time at local orphanages, medical centres, and centres for the disabled to see the operations first-hand.

Each day concludes with the team having an evening meal together, followed by a group debrief to reflect on the day's work and prepare for the next.

The deployment cost includes your breakfast each morning, which will be provided by the hotel.

For the evening meal, the team arranges this together each day, but the cost is not included in the deployment fee. The group will typically decide whether to eat at the hotel, visit a local restaurant, or order food in. You will need to budget for your evening meals separately.

All volunteers will stay together in a 3 or 4-star hotel. The hotel has been fully vetted and assessed by the foundation to ensure it meets our standards for safety and comfort. It is a trusted location where all of our deployment groups stay.

Usually, there will not be any free time left for personal exploration. As we are there on a deployment for the charity, each day is fully scheduled with activities from morning to evening. The focus of the trip is to maximise our time to complete the important humanitarian work we are there to do.

There is a difference of opinion. From a charity point of view, no you do need a mahram. sisters will be in a group and we always have a sister coordinator on the ground

We organise sisters only groups and brothers only groups often. Groups will be organised accordingly to activities. We will inform you of the group structure upon booking you on board!
