DONATE YOUR ZAKAT

RAMADAN 2024 ZAKAT APPEALS

Here we’ve answered some frequently asked questions about the Islamic obligation that’s second only to Salah (prayer), and provided more information about how your Zakat reaches our Zakat-eligible projects at World Care Foundation (WCF).

What is Zakat?

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and is a form of charity which is compulsory for those who are eligible. Every Muslim of able means is obligated to give an amount of his/her wealth to uplift people who are financially disadvantaged.

Who is eligible to pay Zakat?

If a person’s annual wealth or assets equals to or exceeds a certain financial threshold (the Nisab), they are required to donate 2.5% of their wealth to those in need. The Nisab is calculated at 612.4g of silver or 87.5g of gold, at the current rate.

Does Zakat have to be paid at a specific time?

Zakat can be given any time of the year, although many people choose to pay it during Ramadan to maximise their rewards and benefits. At WCF, all the Zakat donations we receive are saved in our Zakat fund and distributed to recipients who are eligible when they need it the most.

What are the benefits of paying Zakat?

There are many benefits to paying Zakat. Zakat has the potential to eradicate poverty if practised widely. However, Zakat is actually more beneficial to the giver than the receiver, and not only because it fulfils our Islamic obligation. Giving Zakat cleanses our hearts against selfishness and greed, and helps us remove our love of worldly and material things. When we give our Zakat, we acknowledge our wealth is in fact not our own but a blessing from Allah (SWT) to be shared with our needy brothers and sisters who have a right over it.

Who gets your Zakat when you donate through WCF?

We use your Zakat to help Muslims in need, everywhere we have a presence. So your Zakat can be helping Muslims in poverty, right here in the UK, or abroad, where our brothers and sisters face crises in disaster-affected countries.

Your Zakat funds our many lifesaving Projects and Crisis Appeals abroad. This includes our food, water, shelter, healthcare and empowerment projects in countries like Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Bangladesh and Pakistan, as well as all over the African continent. Your Zakat is also used to sponsor vulnerable orphans and destitute families who qualify to receive it.

Your Zakat also goes to UK Muslims in need, who qualify to receive it. There are thousands of vulnerable single mothers and widows within our communities in the UK who are suffering from poverty. Your Zakat helps them and many others who face financial difficulties.

If you’re giving Zakat this Ramadan, you’ll want to know where it’s going. Here, we’ve detailed how we’re using the Zakat you give this Ramadan.

From Palestine to Yemen, World Care Foundation (WCF) teams are on the ground in crisis locations across the world supporting our brothers and sisters impacted by conflict and disasters.

Here’s how your Zakat will be saving lives this Ramadan:

Gaza

With the grace of Allah (SWT), we’re on the ground in Gaza providing food and items essential to survival for displaced families under attack. Please help us help them survive.

Orphan Sponsorship

From Iraq to Yemen and refugee camps across the world – we work to support children orphaned by conflict and other disasters. Your Zakat and Sadaqah this Ramadan can be a lifeline for orphaned children.

Support Widows

Thousands of Syrian women who have to protect and support their children alone are in dire need of our help and protection. They are vulnerable and tackling extreme poverty, in refugee camps. Your Sadaqah and Zakat will be the aid they’re praying for this Ramadan.

These are just some of the causes and projects you can give your Zakat to this Ramadan. You may choose to support others from our list of Zakat-eligible projects when paying yours.

Our 100% Donation Policy means a 100% reward for you.

At WCF, we have a 100% Zakat policy. That means every penny you donate reaches our recipients.
